Summary 2025
This was “the Culture of Open Source”
The Chemnitz Linux Days attracted around 3500 visitors to the central auditorium building of the Chemnitz University of Technology. Already the large display at the entrance greeted them cordially to the Linux and Open Source event in the sign of the Capital of Culture year. The images included in the motto graphics show the Linux mascot Tux in paintings by da Vinci, Munch and Picasso and could be found also in many places in the building.
After a small bend in the previous years, the number of visitors was again linked to pre-Corona times. This was also reflected in the well attended lectures that were recorded in all seven strands. In addition, there were up to 250 parallel viewers in the live streams. There was also great interest in the workshops, both in adults and in the CLT-Junior offer, that was fully booked. Who could no longer register for the CLT-Junior program, had among other things, the possibility to work concentrated on a soldering project. For this, many different kits, including a colorful flashing heart or a Tic-Tac-Toe game, were offered, which could be carried proudly home after completion.
The offer for children also included a workshop of the international professional diabolo player Georgio Diabolo. All event attendees also had the possibility to admire his art after the first lecture day at the forecourt of the event building. He thus enrolled the Linux night that invited the visitors later on to the Lokomov bar.
The lecture program was also framed by other offers. So Dr. Tux' practice staff had a lot to do. Patients have been brought to him with problems of a very different kind – from not working routers up to the broken installations. All of them could be helped.
The so-called "Lightning Talks" were reissued. For these five-minute mini lectures on Sunday afternoon a lecture slot had been offered, for which you could submit a post on Saturday by post box. Since there were more submissions than slots, there was a random drawing of the talks finally included in the program.
The video streams again were provided this year with the support of the Chaos Computer Club Video Operation Center (C3VOC). First records can already be found on the C3VOC website. Together with the presentation materials of the lecturers, they are taken into account in the programme overview and can then be retrieved via a lecture link.
