Chemnitz Linux Days 2025: “Sovereign Digitality”

Contributions for one of the largest Linux and open source events in the German-speaking world on 28 and 29 March 2026 can be submitted until 12 January 2026.

On March 28 and 29, 2026, the Chemnitz Linux Days in the lecture hall and seminar building of the Technical University want to encourage visitors to embrace “sovereign digitality.” This year's motto deliberately plays on the term “digital sovereignty.” It stands for the ability of individuals, companies, and societies to use digital technologies in a self-determined, secure, and sustainable manner—without dependence on individual providers or geopolitical interests. With this modified version of the term, the organizing team invites visitors to engage with digital tools in an informed and self-confident manner as a prerequisite for greater independence.

The use of open source and alternative solutions has always been a central concern of the Chemnitz Linux Days. The desire for digital sovereignty is currently becoming a focus of attention throughout society once again. At a time when digital infrastructure is increasingly becoming the critical backbone of the economy, administration, and everyday life, open standards, transparent technologies, and collaborative innovations are more important than ever. Linux and open source are not just tools, but drivers of competitiveness, interoperability, and digital participation.

For the 27th edition of the event, the organising team is calling for submissions for the lecture and workshop program, CLT Junior, and the live area via a web form by January 12, 2026. All information and links to the call forms can be found on the website www.chemnitzer.linux-tage.de.

Background: Chemnitz Linux Days (CLT)

Back in 1999, the organising team at the time decided to “simply make a Chemnitz Linux Day”. It started on March 6, 1999 with 24 lectures, an install party and several demonstrations. The event quickly grew. Most recently, well over 3,000 visitors flocked to the Central Lecture Hall and Seminar Building at Chemnitz University of Technology for the CLT weekend. With around 90 lectures, an extensive workshop program, a packed foyer with exhibitors from projects and companies in the “Linux-Live” area and the “CLT Junior” offer, the event has firmly established itself as one of the largest of its kind in the German-speaking world. After a forced break in 2020, the event was held digitally in 2021 and 2022 and has been taking place on site again since 2023.
