Chemnitz Linux Days 2026: “Sovereign Digitality”

107 lectures in seven strands, 14 workshops and "CLT Junior" await guests on 28 and 29 March 2026 at Chemnitz University of Technology at one of the largest events of its kind in the German-speaking world – registration is required for some activities.

The Chemnitz Linux Days will take place on 28 and 29 March 2026 under the motto "Sovereign Digitality" in the Central Lecture Hall and Seminar Building of the Chemnitz University of Technology. Visitors will be offered a varied programme of lectures, workshops, a special junior programme and numerous opportunities to exchange ideas with exhibitors. In addition, the Chaos Computer Club Chemnitz is taking the opportunity to hold its monthly "Digital Independence Day" in the region.

107 presentations cover a wide range of topics – from digitisation, networks, cryptography and containers to open source in schools and questions for beginners. For example, on Saturday, Christian Schubert will demonstrate practical applications for electronic ID cards, while Merle Fäller will explore the question of how push notifications work technically and what dependencies exist in her presentation "Why even Signal knocks on Google & Apple's door". Marcel Roth will provide an overview of the use of open source in German schools, and on Sunday, Prof. Dr. Frank Pallas will present "Offlinetags", an innovative mechanism for social communication of photo preferences. This will also be used on site. In the "Web" section, Tobias Heine will demonstrate how the Hugo site generator can be used to create appealing websites.

Participants can gain practical experience in several workshops, such as programming Linux drivers, building Debian packages, or creating professional LaTeX documents. Participation in the workshops requires prior registration and costs five euros in addition to the admission fee.

The CLT Junior Programme offers exciting activities for children and young people aged ten and above: they can experiment with Arduino and Calliope mini computers or make everyday objects light up with coloured LEDs. Here too, a participation fee of five euros and registration are required.

A special highlight is the Chaos Computer Club Chemnitz meetup on Saturday, which invites participants to join a regional #DIDay group. Digital Independence Day (DID) is a monthly day of action that aims to promote digital self-determination and support the switch to privacy-friendly, free software alternatives.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to talk to companies in the exhibition area and find out about projects, take part in the recognised certification exams of the Linux Professional Institute in the neighbouring Weinhold Building, or get help with hardware and software problems at the "Praxis Dr. Tux" clinic. A soldering workshop with various kits will also be offered.

On Saturday evening, Linux Night invites you to relax in a laid-back atmosphere at Bar Lokomov, Augustusburger Straße 102, from 6 p.m. onwards.

All details about the offers, registration forms and information about travel and accommodation can be found on the Chemnitz Linux Days website at www.linux-tage.de. The event begins on 28 March 2026 at 8:00 a.m. and on 29 March at 9:00 a.m. The programme ends at 6:00 p.m. on both days. Tickets are available in advance via the event website. Admission for the entire weekend costs twelve euros (reduced rate: six euros), and children under the age of twelve are admitted free of charge. For those travelling by train, there is once again a discounted event train ticket available; proof of participation, such as the advance ticket, is required during ticket inspections.

If you would like to support the Chemnitz Linux Days as a volunteer, you will find all the necessary information and contact details on the Get Involved page of the website.

Background: Chemnitz Linux Days (CLT)

Back in 1999, the organising team at the time decided to “simply make a Chemnitz Linux Day”. It started on March 6, 1999 with 24 lectures, an install party and several demonstrations. The event quickly grew. Most recently, well over 3,500 visitors flocked to the Central Lecture Hall and Seminar Building at Chemnitz University of Technology for the CLT weekend. With around 100 lectures, an extensive workshop program, a packed foyer with exhibitors from projects and companies in the “Linux-Live” area and the “CLT Junior” offer, the event has firmly established itself as one of the largest of its kind in the German-speaking world.
