Checkmk – The IT Monitoring Platform

Checkmk is an IT monitoring solution for cloud, hybrid, and data center infrastructures. It integrates seamlessly within open observability ecosystems and other applications, combining enterprise-grade scalability and automation with the flexibility of open source software.

Checkmk started as a collection of scripts to simplify setting up Nagios monitoring environments and an agent script for Unix-like operating systems. Over the last 16 years, it has evolved into a comprehensive and user-friendly monitoring solution.

Throughout its development, Checkmk has remained true to the open-source philosophy and offers an open-source version based on the Nagios core. The commercial editions, on the other hand, use a proprietary core that is compatible with Nagios and includes many of the same tools and utilities.

Thanks to its open-source availability, Checkmk has built a large and active user base that, in addition to the more than 2,000 vendor-maintained plugins, contributes further checks and agents, enabling monitoring for a wide range of hardware and software solutions.
