„Sovereign digitality“ – Linux and open source as the key to digital self-determination
“Digital sovereignty” refers to the ability of individuals, companies, and societies to use digital technologies in a self-determined, secure, and sustainable manner — without dependence on individual providers or geopolitical interests. In this year's motto, we deliberately play with the term and invite people to use digital tools in an informed and self-confident manner as a prerequisite for greater independence.
The use of open source and alternative solutions has always been a central concern of the Chemnitz Linux Days. However, the desire for digital sovereignty is currently becoming a focus of attention throughout society once again. At a time when digital infrastructure is increasingly becoming the critical backbone of the economy, administration, and everyday life, open standards, transparent technologies, and collaborative innovations are more important than ever. Linux and open source are not just tools, but drivers of competitiveness, interoperability, and digital participation.
We are looking for contributions that show how open source and Linux are advancing these goals – in three key areas:
-
Infrastructure & Interoperability
How can we create robust, open, and compatible systems that reduce dependencies and connect digital ecosystems?
-
Innovation & Competitiveness
How do open source and Linux strengthen the competitiveness of companies and public institutions?
-
Society & Transformation
How do we promote the acceptance and use of open solutions in administration, education, and civil society?
We want to hear your ideas, projects, and best practices! Whether it's a talk, workshop, or discussion, show us how you are shaping digital sovereignty with Linux and open source. We look forward to your submissions! What is currently on your mind, and in which category do you see the greatest need for action?
Of course, during the development of the programme we will also consider
submissions that can not be assigned to the above mentioned priorities as far as they
relate to open source topics.
Application deadline 12.01.2026.
We offer
- Lectures on various subjects are offered in parallel tracks. Subsequently there is enough time for Q&A sections with the consultant.
- Those who would like to examine a subject thoroughly or want to test what has been learned previously are well advised to attend a workshop. Professional staff attempts to communicate a certain subject in detail over a period of usually 3 hours. Registration in advance is required and a fee will be charged.
- Talks for beginners are normally shorter and take place in smaller rooms so that the conditions for discussions and questions are more attractive and one can be more responsive to the audience.
- Lectures will be recorded and streamed.
